Shots Fired on Franklin Street – Two Struck?

City police were called to Franklin Street at Fletcher Street today at 1:06 a.m. for a report of gunshots, but didn’t find a whole lot at the scene.
A short time after the call, though, a 23-year-old Lowell man was dropped off at Lowell General Hospital by a black Nissan with its back window smashed out. He had a gunshot wound to the back.
A short time after that, a 22-year-old Lynn man showed up at Saints Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the leg. He wasn’t terribly cooperative with police from what I’m told, so detectives are still trying to be sure he was shot on Franklin.
The 23-year-old was flown by MedFlight to a Boston trauma center. Both men are expected to survive.
Police say the shooting does not appear to have been random, and that it may be gang-related.
Anyone with information is asked to call Lowell police at 978-937-3200 or Crimestoppers at 978-459-TIPS (8477). Information can also be sent to police via Text-a-Tip, by texting TIP411 (847411) with the subject “LPDTIP.”
Tipsters can remain anonymous, but can receive up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest.
