Reciting Poetry to the Cops

Police got called to Mansur Street in Belvidere tonight at 8:49 p.m., after a man smashed a window and broke into a home, only to get scared off by a female resident.

The woman knew the guy, described him to police, and officers found him on Rogers Street walking toward Lawrence Street about 9 p.m.

The guy, who I’m not going to identify, was reciting poetry to officers and appeared to have his pants held up by a string.

Police eventually uncuffed him and called an ambulance so the guy could get a psychiatric evaluation instead of booking, which is why I’m not going to identify him. It seemed like he needed some help more than anything. Police said he would probably be summonsed to court for misdemeanor B and E nonetheless.

Kind of a funny situation, except that its yet another guy wandering in the cold, looking for food, while obviously, until tonight, not getting as much as help as he needs. Happy holidays everyone.

  1. It’s a very sad situation, but there are more people than anyone could imagine who have run through their options and either freeze to death or go to the lengths this man did just to get indoors for even a few hours. 31 years ago I was homeless for 1 1/2 years-and it was only by the grace of God that I’m here to talk about it!
