Fire spreads into a home.

I wasn’t even officially back from my three-day weekend yet this afternoon when I got a call from my boss telling me to go to 1 Butman Place in Lowell, where firefighters had been sent at 3:11 p.m.

Crews found a fire that started outside and spread into the small duplex. Deputy Chief Joe Roth said it appears the home was vacant at the time of the fire, and that no one was injured.

Crews were able to knock the fire down in about 20 minutes, and also spared a home next door at 3 Ames Place, which had some of its yellow siding melt due to the heat from the flames.

No one was hurt.

Roth said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The other side of this duplex, 2 Butman Place, is where a man ran in the summer of 2010 after he alleged stabbed two women to death in a Cupples Square apartment.
