Lucky Break for Allegedly Drunken Driver

Pelham Police report they were called to the area of 145 Bush Hill Road today about 1 p.m., and found a 1995 Pontiac Grand Am that had gone out of control on icy roads and down a 12-foot embankment.

Officers found the car heavily damaged and partially submerged in running water. The car’s driver, Jeffrey Daigle, 35, of Pelham, was unconscious when emergency crews arrived. He came too as he was being freed from the car by firefighters, according to police.

Here is a picture of Daigle.

Police say icy roads and alcohol appear to have caused this crash. They say Daigle has prior convictions for driving while intoxicated from 1996 and 2003.

Fortunately for Daigle, the 1996 conviction is too old to count against him, so when he was arrested at the scene of the crash he was charged with driving while intoxicated (second offense).

Daigle suffered minor injuries in the crash, according to police. He was treated and released from Southern New Hampshire Medical Center before being booked at the Pelham Police Station, where he is currently being held.

Bush Hill Road was closed for about an hour. Police say this is the second time this week that road has been closed by an accident.

Take it easy out there, folks. I know everyone thinks they’re a professional at driving in the snow, but that particular belief is one of the many reasons that I will never run out of news to report.
