Double bank robber double-crossed?

So, police didn’t want to talk about all the details of this investigation, but it certainly looks like this is quite the little treacherous story.

Police arrested Michael Dexter, 50, of 222 Stackpole St., Unit 1, Lowell, this afternoon in downtown Lowell.

He is charged with two counts of armed robbery while masked, because Lowell and Tewksbury Police accuse him of displaying a handgun and robbing the Lowell Cooperative Bank, 691 Rogers St., in Lowell, last Tuesday, and then robbing Enterprise Bank, 910 Andover St., in Tewksbury, on Thursday.

Police also charged Krystina Gignac, 26, of 5 Fifth St., Lowell, with armed robbery while masked. Tewksbury Police accuse Gignac of driving Dexter to and from the Enterprise robbery in her blue Ford Focus.

It looks like the story doesn’t end there, though.

On Friday, at 12:50 p.m., Lowell Police were called to 222 Stackpole St., Unit 1, for a report of an armed home invasion. Does that address sound familiar?

One day after Dexter and Gignac allegedly robbed Enterprise Bank, two men forced their way into Dexter’s listed address and demanded that a male occupant of the apartment give them cash.

Police aren’t identifying the occupant of that apartment, but Capt. Kelly Richardson said on Friday that the occupant was uncooperative with police, and refused to say whether any cash was actually taken.

With today’s charges, I guess we know why.

Richardson reported on Friday that two suspects in that home invasion fled the scene in a blue Ford Focus. Funny I’ve seen that car description before.

And, lo-and-behold, late Sunday night, Krystina Gignac was arrested by Lowell Police and charged with armed home invasion.

Gignac was arraigned today. She wasn’t held on the armed robbery charge, but a judge ordered her held on $5,000 cash bail on the count of armed home invasion, according to Jessica Pastore, a spokeswoman for District Attorney Gerard Leone.

Dexter is being held without bail tonight, and will be arraigned tomorrow in Lowell District Court.

I found some stuff in our archives that makes it look like isn’t the first time Dexter has faced armed robbery charges.

There has gotta be a safer way to make a few bucks here in Lowell…
