Rollover closes High Street

Emergency crews got called to High Street, maybe 50 or 100 feet up from Andover Street, today about 5:30 p.m., for a reported rollover accident.

They found a white Volkswagon Jetta, below, rolled onto its roof following what appeared to be a nearly head-on collision with a blue Mazda Protege, pictured further down.

The young woman who was driving the Jetta is pictured in white behind her car, in the middle. She was upset but standing and suffered only minor injuries. She was taken to Saints Medical Center.

A young male driver of the Protoge sat on a curb following the crash and told me he too was okay, though once his mother showed up he too was taken to Saints Medical Center to be checked out.

High Street was closed while crews responded to this and cleaned up the mess. In an effort to get the street open as soon as possible, Kazanjian’s even pulled the Jetta onto the back of a flatbed before they flipped it onto its wheels.

I’ve never seen that done before, so I shot some quick video that I’ll upload in a few minutes.

The street was open in less than an hour. I’m told injuries were minor. Not sure who is at fault or if there will be charges, but it sounds like one of the cars crossed the double yellow line and clipped the front of the other car.

My colleague Joyce Tsai also has a story about a 2-alarm fire in Lowell that happened overnight. Check out the breaking news on that here.

  1. How are you allowed to videotape, and photograph Lowell police or police in general? I know “we can” but they arrest normal people in Mass, a a report I am sure you are more inept on the laws to defend yourself in the situation. I am a photographer, I would take pictures in the moment but am afraid to because I feel they will give me a hard time or arrest me. Any advice?
