Tewksbury Police and firefighters were called to Main Street at Interstate 495 at 6:54 p.m., for what was initially reported as a crash in which someone was ejected out the windshield.
Fortunately, that turned out not to be the case, but the 21-year-old Wilmington woman pictured on a stretcher below still suffered serious, though not life-threatening injuries, from what I was told.
The woman was driving down the off ramp from I-495 south to Route 38 when her 1999 Geo Prism left the right side of the ramp and struck the large metal pole, pictured above, that holds up the traffic lights in the intersection. The car spun after impact.
Firefighters had to cut the Prism’s door off using hydraulic tools to get the woman out of the car. She was taken to Lahey Clinic in Burlington.
