Police and firefighters were called to 431 Central Street, near Charles Street, about 11:35 p.m., for a report that a car had rolled over, and they arrived to find exactly that.
It appears the female driver, whose age and identity were not immediately available, took the turn from Charles Street to Central Street a little too wide and clipped a sign and telephone pole, which caused her Toyota to roll onto its side, according to police.
The woman had a pretty nasty cut on her elbow, but I’m told she otherwise appeared to be okay.
The woman was stuck in the car since it was on its side, so firefighters braced the car so it wouldn’t roll any more, then handed a blanket into the car so the woman could cover herself while firefighters sawed away the windshield.
Above is video of the firefighters as they sawed away the windshield, pulled it down and freed the driver.
The driver was taken to Saints Medical Center once she was free.
Here’s another picture that shows how firefighters cut away the windsheild to free the driver.
I hope she’s okay.
I was a lot busier than I hoped I would be tonight. Here’s to hoping Lowell has fewer things to cover on Monday. I have some long-term projects I’d rather be working on.
