I did an earlier post on this incident, but it turns out the robbery in Chelmsford this evening was a bank robbery, not a robbery of a grocery store.
The confusion was caused because someone robbed the Citizen’s Bank branch inside of the Stop & Shop grocery store at 299 Chelmsford Street today just before 7 p.m.
Police now tell me that a man with a shirt or handkerchief wrapped around his head passed a note to a teller at the bank branch inside the grocery store and then fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.
He fled in an unknown direction after leaving the store.
Police describe him as a white male, average build, about 6’0. He was wearing a gray short-sleeved shirt, blue or black carpenter’s jeans and sunglasses. He appeared to have reddish hair and a short goatee.
No one was hurt. No weapon was shown.
Chelmsford Police asked Lowell Police to keep an eye out for a newer model Nissan that was seen leaving the store about the same time. That vehicle is described as possibly being a Nissan Altima, or a similar vehicle. It appeared to be gray or gold.
UPDATE: I added a surveillance photo to this entry and tweaked the description of the suspect based on updated information from police.
Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call Chelmsford Police at 978-256-2521.
