I work the night shift because that’s when a lot of the city’s crime occurs.
Today was an exception.
At 6:51 a.m., police were called to the area of Cabot and Merrimack streets for a report of a man with a knife.
Officers arrived to find a group of men around a 25-year-old Lowell man who was suffering from stab wounds to his leg, chest and arms. He was stabbed twice in the arm.
The man told police he was walking in an alley nearby when he was approached by a Hispanic male with long hair, who was wearing a red shirt. That man ripped a necklace from the neck of the 25-year-old, and then stabbed him during the ensuing struggle, according to police.
The 25-year-old was taken to Lowell General Hospital, and then transferred by ambulance to an undisclosed Boston hospital., according to police. His injuries were not life threatening.
