The Mustang lost.
I’m not yet sure what started the motor vehicle pursuit that started on Bridge Street in Centralville tonight, but I do know how it ended, because it ended with this guy in handcuffs.
Police tell me this is Anthony Burcell, 20, of 240 Pelczar Road, Dracut.
Police say officers in a car that patrols Centralville tried to stop the Ford Mustang pictured below here on Bridge Street about 8:20 p.m., but the driver of the car refused to stop.
The chase went up Bridge Street, and I’m told Pelczar nearly struck several pedestrians as he fled police.
The chase quickly made its way into Dracut, where the driver turned onto Marsh Hill Road, and Lowell started having some trouble communicating via police radio as the chase went into a rural area.
It was Dracut Police who I first heard on the radio reporting the chase ended in a crash.
Police say the driver of the Mustang struck the Chevy pictured below on Marsh Hill Road near Richardson Road, and then drove into a stone wall.
An innocent 55-year-old Dracut man who was driving the Chevy was taken to a local hospital with what were described to me as minor injuries.
Burcell appeared to be unhurt. He was taken into custody by Lowell Police, and is being booked as I type this.
UPDATE: Reports are still being completed, but so far Burcell has been booked on charges of failure to stop for police, operating to endanger, possession of a class E substance, marked lanes violation, and operating after suspension.
Above is some video from the crash scene.
UPDATE: This pursuit started because officers in Car 2 were on patrol when they allegedly saw Burcell squeal the tires on the Mustang, fish tail, and nearly strike two cars as he pulled onto Bridge Street from 1140 Bridge Street about 8:30 p.m.
Burcell has also been charged with OUI-drugs, possession of a class E substance (Xanax) and possession of a class B substance (suboxone).
